Social Psychology Certified
Social psychology is a science that studies the influences of our situations, with special attention to how we view and affect each other. More precisely, it is the scientific study of how people think about, influence, and relate to one another.
On July 7, 2020, I completed the Social Psychology Course at Coursera (this is an introduction to the discipline, not a full program with a degree at the end).
Pr. Scott Plous – Professor of Psychology at Wesleyan University – presents and animates the 4-6 weeks course.
I signed up for the course because I have a strong desire to understand myself and people. I want to be a better compassionate human being.
Nowadays, we are bombarded by information, which causes us to be less aware of our environment, attitude, behaviours and habits. We are always on auto-pilot.
I can’t resume all the things I learned about myself and Social Psychology. We study topics as The Attribution Theory, Cognitive Dissonance, Obedience, Discrimination, Prejudice, Terrorism and so on.
Modules I enjoyed studying (honestly, I loved everything):
- Social Perceptions and Misperceptions
- How We See Ourselves and Others
- Obedience to Authority (The Milgram’s Experiment is very insightful)
- The Dark Side of Deindividuation
- Prejudice, Stereotyping, and Intergroup Biases
- Aggression, Violence, and Terrorism
I highly recommend the course. Professor Plous succeeded in making a scientific discipline easy to understand, captivating, insightful and fun.
You will have access to the Social Psychology Network and many resources.
I also completed the Content Marketing Course at HubSpot.
